 Badiuzzaman Said Nursi
His biography
Said Nursi was born in Nurs, a Kurdish village in the Bitlis Vilayet (province) of the Ottoman Empire, in eastern Anatolia. He received his early education from scholars of his hometown, where he showed mastery in theological debates. After developing a reputation for Islamic knowledge, he was nicknamed "Bediuzzaman", meaning "The most unique and superior person of the time". He was invited by the governor of the Vilayet of Van to stay within his residency. In the governor's library, Nursi gained access to an archive of scientific knowledge he had not had access to previously. Said Nursi also learned the Ottoman Turkish language there. During this time, he developed a plan for university education for the Eastern provinces of the Ottoman Empire. By combining scientific and religious (Islamic) education, the university was expected to advance the philosophical thoughts of these regions. However, he was put on trial in 1909 for his apparent involvement in the Ottoman countercoup of 1909 against the liberal reform movement named the Committee of Union and Progress, but he was acquitted and released. He was active during the late Ottoman Caliphate as an educational reformer and advocate of the unity of the peoples of the Caliphate. He proposed educational reforms to the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid aiming to put the traditional Madrasah (seminary) training, Sufism (tasawwuf) and the modern sciences in dialogue with each other. During World War I, Nursî was a member of the Ottoman Empire's "Special Organization". In January 1916 he was captured by Russian forces and taken to Russia as a prisoner of war, where he spent over 2 years. He escaped in the spring of 1918 and made his way to Istanbul. His return was welcomed and he was chosen to be a member of Dar-al Hikmat al-Islamiye, an Islamic academy seeking solutions for the Islamic world’s growing problems.
He died of exhaustion after traveling to Urfa. He was buried in a tomb opposite the cave was prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) is widely believed to have been born. After the military coup d'état in Turkey in 1960, a group of soldiers led by the later, right-wing politician, Alparslan Türkeş opened his grave and buried him at an unknown place near Isparta during July 1960 in order to prevent popular veneration. His followers are reported to have found his grave after years of searching in the area, and took his remains to a secret place in an effort to protect his body from further disturbance.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan
His biography
Born in 1954, he is the son of a coastguard in the city of Rize on Turkey’s Black Sea coast.Mr. Erdogan was 13 when his father decided to move to Istanbul, hoping to give his five children a better upbringing. As a teenager, he sold lemonade and sesame buns on the streets of Istanbul’s rougher districts to earn extra cash.He attended an Islamic school before obtaining a degree in management from Istanbul’s Marmara University – and playing professional football. While at university, he met Necmettin Erbakan – who went on to become the country’s first Islamist prime minister – and entered Turkey’s Islamist movement.Mr. Erdogan’s first brush with the law came after the military coup of 1980, while he was working for Istanbul’s transport authority. His boss, a retired colonel, told him to shave off his mustache. Mr. Erdogan refused and had to quit the job. His political career in the Welfare Party, as the Islamists’ party, was known until it was banned in 1998, was developing fast. In 1994, Mr. Erdogan became the mayor of Istanbul. Even his critics admit that he did a good job, making Istanbul cleaner and greener – although a decision to ban alcohol in city cafes did not please secularists. He also won admiration from the many who felt he was not corrupt – unlike many other Turkish politicians. His background and commitment to Islamic values appealed to most of the devout Muslim Turks who were alienated by the state. In 1998, the oppressive secular government had him imprisoned for simply including in his poetry a line that resonated with his faith: “The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers.”He was sentenced to 10 months in jail but was freed after four.

Yusuf Qardhawi
His bioghraphy
Yusuf al-Qaradawi (b. 1926) is an Egyptian-born Sunni alim who graduated from Al-Azhar University in Cairo and a prominent Islamist ideologue affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood (Jamiyat al-Ikhwan al-Muslimin). He is a Qatari national and in the early 21st century serves as the director of the Seerah and Sunnah Center at Qatar University in Doha. He is also a member of the Al-Azhar Islamic Research Council and the founder and chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars. Al-Qaradawi is a prolific writer and skilled poet, having penned as many as one hundred books and booklets in Arabic, and a popular media personality, hosting his own television program, Al-Shariah wal-Hayat, on the Al Jazeera satellite network. A popular website issues his fatwas and teachings on an array of subjects, and Muslims around the world can submit their questions online. Several alternative transliterations of his name exist, including Yousef al-Qaradawi. Given his prominence, there is a surprising lack of comprehensive studies on al-Qaradawi. Several works, such as Kurzman 1998 and Davis 1997, include al-Qaradawi alongside other significant Muslim scholars and figures. March 2009 and Nafi 2004 examine the work of al-Qaradawi in the context of contemporary thematic debates surrounding citizenship. Kelsay 2016 focuses on al-Qaradawi’s writings on warfare, and Rock-Singer 2016 explores the role of al-Qaradawi in shaping the Muslim Brotherhood’s message. Baker 2003 features al-Qaradawi in a study of contemporary moderate Islamists. Euben and Zaman 2009 presents a translated al-Qaradawi essay along with a short biography. Gräf and Skovgaard-Petersen 2009 are among the few sources devoted exclusively to al-Qaradawi’s scholarship, teachings, and life. Academic journals in the field also have yet to yield sufficient intensive studies of al-Qaradawi and his significance to late-20th- and early-21st-century Islamic thought. A greater number of studies on al-Qaradawi are available in Arabic, such as Khalaf 2008 and Talimah 2001.
